Control Yuan to probe expo allegations

The China Post
August 31, 2010

TAIPEI, Taiwan — A Control Yuan member said yesterday that he will apply to conduct an investigation into the alleged overpricing of flowers used in reconstruction projects in Taipei City and would not rule out the possibility of questioning Taipei Mayor Hau Lung-bin.

Yeh Yao-peng made the remarks after the city government came under fire for allegedly paying up to 30 times the market price for flowers to decorate the Xinsheng (New Life) elevated expressway and the Taipei International Flora Expo, and as much as 12 times the market price for other project materials.

Yeh said that because of numerous flaws found in the tender process for the procurement projects, it was necessary to look into the case.

His investigation will focus on whether staff at municipal agencies accepted kickbacks or the city government neglected its supervisory duty, he said.     [FULL  STORY]
