TAIPEI, Taiwan — Public health officials in Taipei City agreed yesterday to give a notice to a supplier of a pharmaceutical dealing with problems related to thinning bone mineral density and knee pain to rectify its commercials to stop spreading misleading information.
Two members of the Taipei City Council held a press conference yesterday criticizing the supplier and marketer of Viartril-s capsules for airing TV commercials or placing print advertisements to claim that “only” this particular product is effective in dealing with the bone loss problems.
They said there are presently actually around 80 companies supplying products containing identical material — glucosamine sulfate — although the products carry different brand names.
However, the ads of the supplier of Viartril-s tell consumers that their problems may disappear only when they switch to the product supplied by the “original manufacturer”,they said. more …
