Chinese President Hu Jintao has told US President Barack Obama Apr 2 that he wanted to see healthy ties between two of the world’s influential nations, but stressed that the “appropriate” handling of issues related to Taiwan and Tibet were key to stable development of ties, according to China’s official China Daily newspaper Apr 3.
The report said Hu made the comment while answering a phone call made by Obama from Air Force One. The report cited Obama as having reassured Hu that the US fully adhered to the one-China policy and would continue to recognize it as China’s core interest.
The report also cited Hu as having told Obama that the two nations should resolve trade disputes through negotiations, although neither side touched upon the sensitive subject of Chinese currency, which is grossly undervalued to give great advantage to Chinese exporters. more …
